WELCOME TO THE NYU TANDON SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

The faculty, students and staff of the New York University Tandon School of Engineering welcome the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Engineering 4 Change to Downtown Brooklyn and our campus.

Our origins date to 1854, which was the founding for both the New York University School of Civil Engineering and Architecture and one of the nation’s first private engineering colleges, the Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute (widely known as Brooklyn Poly). A January 2014 merger created our comprehensive school of education and research in engineering and applied sciences, rooted in a tradition of invention and entrepreneurship and dedicated to furthering technology in service to society.

Today, NYU Tandon educates 5,300 students – more than half of them pursuing master’s degrees. We pride ourselves on our long tradition of educating students from diverse backgrounds, and we are building a supportive environment for – and of – women at the School of Engineering. Last year’s freshman class was comprised of 40 percent women – a full 20 percentage points above the national average for undergraduate engineering programs.

We have ten academic departments and eight major research centers. Researchers in our Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering are breaking new ground in fluid and thermal systems, controls and robotic systems, and computer-integrated mechanical and electromechanical systems, among other areas. In addition to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in mechanical engineering, the department offers a pioneering interdisciplinary master’s degree program in robotics and mechatronics.

NYU Tandon collaborates with other schools within NYU and is closely connected to engineering programs at NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai. One of the country’s foremost private research universities and with a global reach, NYU has 18 schools, 11 study-away sites and $700 million in annual research expenditures.

NYU Tandon also operates Future Labs focused on start-up businesses in downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn and an award-winning online graduate program.

We hope you enjoy your time in our vibrant community and the conference. Please visit us again in person or at engineering.nyu.edu.
